The cells contain the transforming gene neu which induces synthesis of a tumor antigen of relative molecular mass 185, 000 (p185), strongly associated with the presence of neuro/glioblastoma oncogenes. The neu oncogene bears homology to erb-B and the tumor antigen p185 is serologically related to the epidermal growth factor receptor.
